The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday issued separate advisories regarding the temporary suspension of sea travel to protect mariners in Surigao del Norte and the Dinagat Islands.

In an advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a gale warning at 5 a.m. due to strong gale-force winds caused by the northeast monsoon and the trough of the low-pressure area.

Sea conditions in the two provinces were rough to very rough on Thursday (LPA).

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was discovered 750 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, according to the PAGASA on Thursday.

The PCG Surigao del Norte issued an advisory suspending sea travel for vessels and watercraft with 20 gross tonnages or less plying the Bucas Grande-Claver-Siargao sea route.

Separately, the PCG station in Dinagat Islands temporarily halted voyages of vessels and watercraft weighing 350 tons or less within its jurisdiction.

Owners of vessels and watercraft who want to take shelter will be allowed to do so with no passengers on board and a prior written request, according to the statement.

The PAGASA also reminded residents in the Caraga Region to be cautious because the LPA's trough will bring light to heavy rains, potentially causing flooding and landslides.
