

The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGST) has responded to a rescued passenger of the a motor tanker sea horse that caught fire at Batangas Anchorage Area on Sunday morning, Oct. 22.
In its latest update, CGDST said the survivor identified as John Michael Alamansa, a 26-year-old resident of Brgy. Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City, was rescued by an unnamed small fishing banca.
"Personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station Batangas City proceeded to Golden Gate Hospital where the survivor was brought to conduct further investigation," it said.
Citing the physician's assessment, CGDST said Alamansa suffered "30%to 40% degree of burn", and "was delivered to the operating room for proper medication."
According to the organization, the 26-year-old victim recalled that the blaze hit the motor tanker while he "was on the pilot house."
SO1 Mikaela Beato first confirmed to DZRH that two individuals reportedly died due to the fire.
The CGDST said the identification of the victims would "be withheld for the next 24 hours until the next of kin has been notified."
Authorities are still conducting a search and rescue operation for the missing passengers.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, as of this posting.
