The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued seven fishermen from a distressed boat off the coast of Jintotolo Island in Masbate on Friday, July 28.
According to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday, it took two hours to complete the rescue operation.
The PCG said the fishermen were headed to Estancia, Iloilo, when their boat faced strong waves and wind, causing the vessel to sink.
Rescued were 52-year-old Jomar Asuelo, 46-year-old Lito Candelario, 30-year-old Robert Rodrigo, 37-year-old Romark Acedre, 53-year-old John Borja, 40-year-old Niño Solitario, and 43-year-old Michael Retirado.
The fishing boat sailed on July 23 but because of the impact of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” enhanced by typhoon “Egay,” they took shelter in Masbate for five days.
The PCG is now investigating if the fishermen committed any violations and disregarded gale warnings.
The fishermen were also found without any life jackets.
