PCG prepares for upcoming Super Typhoon Betty

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed teams to Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Ilocos Region to prepare for the upcoming Super Typhoon Betty.

In a press release on Tuesday, May 23, PCG said the Deployable Response Groups (DRGs) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are presently on standby in Northern Luzon.

It said that PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio Abu and PCG Officer-in-Charge, CG Vice Admiral Rolando Punzalan Jr., have already directed the district commanders to ensure the readiness of Coast Guard Stations and Substations.

According to PCG, Coast Guard personnel have also tightened their inspection of vessels to ensure their safe navigation and prevent accidents, and the PCG's search and rescue (SAR) are in post for immediate response in case of flooding in residential areas.

During this time, the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) is also beginning to prepare relief supplies and family packs to be distributed immediately to evacuation centers, and also starting to pack relief items for evacuation centers.

Based on the weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA), the Super Typhoon is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday or Saturday morning.
