The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday, November 13, that it ordered an investigation regarding a RoRo vessel that was reportedly listed while traversing the vicinity waters off Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.
According to PCG, the incident happened at around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, when a Roro vessel, MV Filipinas Cagayan de Oro (CDO), was on its way to Cebu when it unfortunately encountered a 10-degree listing due to strong winds caused by bad weather.
Meanwhile, at 11:20 p.m., the Roro Vessel has returned and safely arrived at CDO Port Ground, according to a Coast Guard Station CDO report.
Around 448 passengers and four rolling cargoes onboard have been assisted by the CDO Coast Guard in their disembarkation.
According to PCG Spokesperson, CG Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, ordered the Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC) instructions to look into and verify the safety measures followed by the shipping company and its crew.
“This is to assure the public that we value the safety of the passengers and as much as possible incidents like this are prevented, especially now that the Christmas season is approaching and maritime traffic is increasing,” Balilo said.
Balilo added that the PCG received information that MV Filipinas CDO was listed due to the unstable lashing of the rolling cargoes.
