The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday, Nov. 15, said it is investigating the undetermined number of dead fish in Cañacao Bay, Cavite City.

According to the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Cavite, the majority of floating fish were tilapia.

CGSS said they reported the incident to the local government unit (LGU) of Cavite and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

BFAR conducted an inspection around the area and took water samples to determine its cause.

Meanwhile, PCG stated that the collected dead fish from the bay were turned over to the garbage collector truck of Cavite LGU and moved to the Material Recovery Facilities for proper disposal.

CFSS will continue monitoring and conducting further assessment regarding the matter.

Cavite Mayor Denver Chua earlier showed through a Facebook live that thousands of dead tilapia could be harmful for the residents nearby.
