The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced Thursday that the search and rescue operations for the remaining six missing crew members of a fishing boat that sank off the coast of Davao Oriental on June 22 have been suspended.
At approximately 11:39 p.m. on Wednesday, the PCG said the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao decided to end the search and rescue operations on Thursday, June 29 — seven days after the marine disaster.
It also stated that it will continue to warn transiting vessels about any sightings of the six missing crew members.
During the investigation, one of the survivors said that the six missing crew members could be trapped within the fishing boat Genesis 2, which sank 182 nautical miles off the coast of Baganga town at a depth of roughly 5,000 feet, according to the PCG.
The PCG clarified its prior claim, stating that the boat captain is one of the six people missing in the tragedy.
So far, three people have been reported killed.
According to the PCG, 14 crew members were rescued in the event.
