The Philippine Coast Guard deployed more than 1,100 personnel to work alongside the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to ensure the safe and peaceful observance of the annual Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
The augmentation, which runs from December 30, 2024, to January 10, 2025, includes the deployment of Coast Guard K9 teams, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, Special Operations Groups (SOGs), Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) teams, and Deployable Response Groups (DRGs).
These units have been strategically assigned to locations such as the Quirino Grandstand, Jones Bridge, and the Quiapo Church area.
Additionally, teams of Coast Guard intelligence experts, crowd security personnel, and medical officers are deployed to ensure the highest level of security and safety, particularly during the procession.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan stated that authorities are anticipating millions of devotees to participate in the various activities during this year's Feast.
“We are one with our Catholic brothers and sisters in celebrating the Annual Feast of the Black Nazarene. The millions of devotees can rest assured that they will have a successful and memorable commemoration through the support of the national government and law enforcement agencies that come together to a common cause – which is to ensure zero-casualty during Traslacion 2025,” said Gavan.
He further assured that the PCG will prioritize public safety and security, addressing potential risks such as terrorism, stampedes, fires in nearby areas, and natural disasters like earthquakes.
The PCG has also deployed 21 floating assets to conduct maritime security and safety operations along the Pasig River and Manila Bay, as well as nine land vehicles to carry out roving inspections throughout the city.
