The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that the oil spill from sunken MT Princess Empress in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro contained industrial fuel oil.
The oil tanker, which carries 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil, sank due to engine overheating.
On Thursday, March 2, the PCG shared photos of the retrieved oil slick, which was initially identified as diesel fuel.
"Kinumpirma ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) na may halo na ring INDUSTRIAL FUEL OIL ang oil spill sa katubigan ng Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, ngayong araw, ika-02 ng Marso 2023," they said.

Meanwhile, PCG’s MTUG Titan conducts continuous application of dispersant to the water.
PCG also observed “patches of emulsified oil” that spread near Sable Island.
