The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) finished siphoning the oil from M/T Princess Empress, which sank last February in the waters of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro
Rear Admiral Armand Balilo, the spokesperson of PCG, said on Monday, June 19, that all eight oil tanks of the sunken vessel have been emptied.
However, the PCG official stressed that oil containment operations continue and that some pipes of the MT Princess Empress continue to leak 'drips' of oil.
"Hindi ito nangangahulugan na tapos na yung ating oil spill incident doon sa area sapagkat may mga nakalutang pa sa dagat na kailangan i-collect at i-contain," Balilo said during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
The sinking of M/T Princess caused an oil spill that resulted in more than Php 4 million worth of damages to agriculture as per the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday.
