The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) assured that the reallocated confidential and intelligence funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) would be used properly, according to its spokesperson for the West Philippine Seas (WPS), Commodore Jay Tarriela.
Tarriela made the assurance after the House of Representatives realigned the OVP and DepEd’s CIF to the budget of the PCG and other security agencies that are protecting the WPS.
In a radio interview, Tarriela said that the function of the coast guard is extremely diverse since the Philippines is an archipelagic country and there is a lot of allocation.
He also made sure that the additional budget given to their agency would be used along the way.
Tarriela added that it was unfortunate to read comments on social media that the people are criticizing the PCG’s plans to take the realigned confidential fund.
He also emphasized that the PCG deals with maritime safety and pollution and enforces maritime laws against piracy at sea, armed robbery, illegal smuggling, and drug trafficking.
