President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged to solve the issues that micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs) confront in order to increase their worldwide competitiveness.
During the National MSME Summit 2023 on Tuesday at The Manila Hotel, Marcos underlined the importance of developing a "more robust" MSME sector in order to have a "more resilient, competitive, and prosperous" Philippine economy.
He emphasized the significance of forming partnerships with diverse sectors in order to produce "viable, effective, and efficient" solutions to the various difficulties confronting the MSME sector in terms of finance and market access, skills development, and so on. and technological uptake.
He asked all industry participants, specialists, and government agencies to take a "whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach" to MSME development.
The President also stated that his administration is still committed to offering digital literacy training and support for various e-commerce platforms to MSMEs in order to assure their efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness.
Marcos stated that the government would collaborate with the private sector to develop mentorship programs and improve MSMEs' access to markets and other resources.
He also expressed hope that this year's conference would unleash the full potential of the country's small enterprises.
The MSME Development Council held the National MSME Summit 2023 to commemorate MSME Development Week, with support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Go Negosyo.
The theme of this year's summit is "Upgrade, Upskill, and Upsize MSMEs," emphasizing the need to empower MSMEs by elevating their capabilities, upgrading their skills, and extending their operations in order for them to thrive in a fast-changing business world.
Marcos stated in his speech at last year's National MSME Summit that revamping the sector is one of the administration's main goals.
