President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. departs today for Malaysia on the invitation of Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah for a three-day state visit.
Marcos would be accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, some Cabinet secretaries, and Filipino businessmen, said Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma Teresita Daza.
In a recent press conference at Malacañang, Daza stated that the President would meet with Malaysia's King and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to identify new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
According to Daza, Marcos will also advocate for stronger collaboration with Malaysia to further his administration's key sectors, which include agriculture, food security, tourism, the digital economy, and people-to-people exchange.
Malaysia views the President's state visit as an "avenue to further solidify the dynamic and already good relations between the two states.
Malaysian Ambassador Dato' Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino bin Anthony stated that Kuala Lumpur intends to seek new areas of cooperation with Manila in order to strengthen bilateral ties.
The Philippines and Malaysia are both founding members of ASEAN and the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
Both have pledged to promote development and peace-building efforts within this organization.
