President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. is set to fly to China in January 2023 for a state visit, Malacañang announced Friday.

In a press statement, Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil said Marcos has accepted the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The said state visit is scheduled from Jan. 3 until Jan. 5 [or] 6.

“The Chinese government has since confirmed that schedule for the State Visit,“ Garafil added.

In a media interview before his departure to Cambodia to attend the 40th and 41st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, Marcos said he hoped to discuss the importance of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea with Xi Jinping.

“We already have the previous declaration which we can base them on. That is one of the many suggestions that I’m hoping to bring. Kailangan natin makahanap ng paraan para ma-resolve ang issue na ito. But to do that, we have to first status quo everything and that’s the code of conduct,“ the President earlier said.

Meanwhile, the OPS OIC also announced that Marcos has been invited to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 16 to 20, 2023.

In a press statement on Saturday, Garafil said it was WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab who invited Marcos.

“Schwab told Marcos his attendance to the WEF serves as a good opportunity to let the global business community know about the dynamism and positive developments happening in the Philippines in a bid to attract more investors,“ she added.
