'What else it is that we can do?'

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants to ask this question when he meets Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo, who won two gold medals in the 2024 Olympic medal in Paris, France.

The President wants to hear the opinion of Yulo, a two-time World Champion, on how the country can develop more athletes capable of winning medals in the Olympics.

"Nadaanan niya lahat ‘yan. He went to the Tokyo Olympics. He has now won his two gold medals in the Paris Olympics kaya’t kung ano pa ang aming gagawin," the President told reporters on Wednesday, August 7, in Masantol, Pampanga.

"Because alam naman natin itong mga atleta, hindi lang ang sarili ang kanilang iniisip kung ‘di pagandahin pa at maging mas maganda pa ang performance doon sa sport nila at sa buong sport ng Pilipinas," he stressed.

Meanwhile, President Marcos also mulls preparing additional rewards for the accomplishments of Yulo in the Paris Games.

Under Republic Act No 10699, also known as National Athletes, Coaches and Trainers Benefits and Incentives Act, Yulo will already receive a total of Php 20 million from the government, Php 10 million for each of his gold medal.

"He deserves everything that anybody is willing to give him," the Chief Executive said.
