President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the removal of Norman Tansingco from his position as Bureau of Immigration Commissioner.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has indeed removed BI Chief Tansingco from his position.
"Yes, the president has approved the dismissal of current BI Commissioner. Yes, that is confirmed," Chavez said during an ambush interview with media on Monday.
"It has something to do with the departure of Alice Guo. This is also part of the commitment of the president [that] “heads will roll," he added.
Justice Secretary Boying Remulla previously stated that he discussed the matter with President Marcos, who agreed to his suggestion to remove Tansingco from his position.
"I have asked the president to relieve him and to replace him. I’m not satisfied. Marami kaming naging problema," Remulla said in an interview with the media on Monday.
"Nagkasundo na kami ng pangulo tungkol dyan. Papalitan siya. If I were him, I would’ve resigned already," he added.
Among the reasons mentioned for his removal were Alice Guo’s illegal departure from the Philippines and the alleged issuance of visas to fake corporations.
During the hearing of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, Senator Francis Tolentino asked Tansingco if he was aware of the news regarding his removal.
Tansingco stated that he was aware of the news about his removal but learned of it only through the media. He has not yet received any official communication from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
