President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. thanked United States President Joe Biden for his service after the American leader announced his withdrawal from the 2024 US Presidential elections.
In a post on X on Monday before his much-awaited State of the Nation Address (SONA), Marcos said Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race demonstrates his "genuine statesmanship."
"President Biden's decision to withdraw from his candidacy is a demonstration of genuine statesmanship," the President said.
"We thank him for his constant and unwavering support for the Philippines in a delicate and difficult time. We wish him well for the rest of his presidency and for all his future endeavors," he added.
Biden made his announcement on Sunday, citing the "best interests of his party" and the nation.
The decision was brought about by intense pressure from within the Democratic Party, with over 30 members of Congress publicly urging Biden to step aside.
