President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his gratitude to all authorities, primarily the Indonesian government, who made the apprehension of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo possible. He assured that Guo’s case would be handled in accordance with the rule of law.
"I congratulate all law enforcement personnel who made this apprehension possible," Marcos said in a video message on Wednesday.
"The public may not know the intricate details of this mission that you have successfully accomplished, but on their behalf, accept my thanks," he added.
As he extended his gratitude to the Indonesian authorities, the president emphasized the close cooperation between the two nations that paved the way for the said arrest.
Marcos mentioned that Guo's apprehension serves as a warning to those who try to evade justice. He warned that the 'long arm' of the law will eventually reach such individuals. The president then vowed that the government remains committed to upholding the rule of law.
"Miss Guo shall be entitled to all legal protections due her under the laws of the land, and pursuant to our commitment to the rule of law," said Marcos.
"But we will not allow this to prolong the resolution of the case, whose outcome will be a victory for the Filipino people," he added.
Guo, who is currently facing charges related to her alleged connection with the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban, was arrested by Indonesian authorities at a hotel in Jakarta early Wednesday.
