President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the situation briefing for Severe Tropical Storm Opong at Camp Aguinaldo on Wednesday, September 24.

Based on RH Edniel Parrosa’s report, the President met with Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

During the briefing, Marcos was reportedly satisfied with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) preparation. Moreover, Teodoro assured that the inter-agency coordination is working well.

“The President was satisfied with the extent of preparations and the prepositioning of needed goods and supplies, particularly sa Batanes,” he said during a media interview. “Ang critical lang kasi dito, malakas ang hangin there’s still the resumption of power.”

In preparation, the NDRRMC would continue to monitor the possible effects of the persisting rain and strong winds brought about by the typhoons heading for CALABARZON, Metro Manila, and Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, Parrosa said that Metro Manila is included in the “cone of uncertainty.”

According to PAGASA, Opong will begin to move west-northwestward as it approaches the Eastern Visayas – Southern Luzon area. Moreover, it is forecast to make landfall over the Bicol Region by Friday (September 26) afternoon.

Opong may cross Southern Luzon until Saturday (September 27) morning.

The casualties from typhoon Nando, which was intensified by rains, climbed to 11. According to the Office of Civil Defense Deputy Spokesperson Diego Mariano, there are seven more reported casualties from Sta. Ana, Cagayan, from a fisherman’s boat that capsized.

Meanwhile, there is one casualty from Calayan, Cagayan, another one who died from a landslide in Tuba, Benguet, and two who died in Morong, Bataan.
