President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the commemoration of the 106th birth anniversary of his father and namesake, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., on Monday, September 11, in Ilocos Norte.
The celebration started with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of the late Marcos Sr. in Batac, Ilocos.
President Marcos attended the event alongside his First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and nephew, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Manotoc.
In his speech, the President said that he hoped that the values, ideals, and visions of his late would spur young leaders and government officials for greater roles and more meaningful endeavors.
"For the peace and order that he fought and stood for, the development that he inspired our own citizens to build, and the dreams that he left in the hearts of many, he remains a true Filipino and Ilocano icon whose exceptional mind matched the nation-loving spirit that he possessed and that he demonstrated," the Chief Executive said.
"So as we remember and pay tribute to his memory, let this gathering serve as a testament to the unwavering pursuit of unity that he so passionately espoused for our people," he added.
