President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. condemned the assassination of Misamis Occidental radio broadcaster Juan Jumalon, who was gunned down by an unknown assailant while he was on live stream inside his home on Sunday morning.
In a statement issued by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Marcos said that the “baseless” attack takes no place in a democratic country, saying that he strongly condemned such action towards the radioman.
The 57-year-old victim was shot dead inside his own radio studio, as witnessed by the online audience.
According to the PCO, the President ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to probe the incident and hold anyone responsible for the crime accountable.
Moreover, the PCO extends its condolences on behalf of the Marcos administration to the bereaved family and relatives of Jumalon.
Meanwhile, the Mindanao Independent Press Council Inc. also expressed strong condemnation after the killing of Jumalon, which is also supported by the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP).
