President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. verbally expressed his opposition to filing any impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, despite their recent rift.

In an ambush interview with the media on Friday, Marcos confirmed the leaked conversation where he urged Congressional leaders to prevent a possible impeachment against the Vice President.

"In the Larger scheme of things, Sara is unimportant. So please do not file impeachment complaints. It will only distract us from the real work of governance whic[h] is to improve the lot of all Filipinos," Marcos said in the leaked text message.

The President acknowledged that the conversation was intended to remain private but confirmed its authenticity as his own statement.

"This is not important. This does not make any difference to even one single Filipino life. So why waste time on it?" Marcos firmly stated in the ambush interview.

He further explained that an impeachment process would ultimately "tie down" the House of Representatives and the Senate, consuming all their time with no productive outcome.

"None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a storm in a tea cup,” he added.

The impeachment talks surfaced following allegations of irregularities in the use of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) during Vice President Duterte's leadership.

The impeachment talks intensified after Vice President Duterte made a controversial statement during a virtual press briefing last week, claiming she had already arranged for someone to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in case she is killed.

Following Duterte's statement, Marcos expressed concern over the alarming remarks and emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law.
