President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. denied that government forces were involved in a shooting incident inside the Senate complex and rejected claims that any order was issued to arrest Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Marcos said he monitored the situation for over two hours and coordinated with law enforcement after reports of gunfire inside the Senate, confirming that no national agency had been instructed to enter the premises.
“Walang pumasok na taga-labas na sundalo, militar, o NBI sa Senado,” Marcos said, adding that security personnel on site were part of the Senate’s own units.
The denial comes amid political tension linked to reports of a possible International Criminal Court (ICC)-related warrant against Sen. Ronald dela Rosa over the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Authorities have yet to release full details of the reported shooting.
Meanwhile, Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa left the Senate past 2:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, according to a reliable source, hours after a lockdown was imposed following a reported shooting incident outside the chamber on Wednesday night, May 13.
The incident reportedly involved an undetermined number of armed individuals who attempted to enter the Senate building, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire and heightened security measures inside the premises.
