President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has declared February of every year as Tax Awareness Month in a bid to improve tax collection in the country.
Under Proclamation No. 486, Marcos stated that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) "needs all the support" from diverse sectors in "disseminating information on the various requirements of taxation."
"There is a need to promote and enhance the awareness of Filipinos on tax laws, rules, and regulations to improve the nation's tax collection and enhance the trust of the general public in the integrity of the country's administration system," he said.
Programs, activities, and projects celebrating Tax Awareness Month shall be led, coordinated, and supervised by the BIR.
All government agencies and instrumentalities are encouraged to support and assist the BIR.
Proclamation No. 486 was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and was published in Official Gazette's website on March 1.
