President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Wednesday announced that he is scheduled to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) that will take place in San Francisco, United States (US) this November.
“The Philippines is actively participating in the Indo-Pacific economic framework and the APEC meetings leading up to the Leader’s Summit in San Francisco in November,” he announced in his speech during the courtesy call of the US-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (US-ASEAN) in Malacañang Palace.
“I look forward to joining fellow APEC leaders in California later this year,” Marcos added.
The President said his top agenda will be clean energy.
“With energy security high in the economic agenda, we are particularly interested in sustainable land, water, and ocean solutions that align with our climate goals and support our plans to transform the Philippines into an upper middle country by 2025,” he said.
“With that being the case, I am interested in the potential of nuclear energy, especially in light of new technologies and innovations that allow the use of smaller scale, modular reactors that we see that are safer than traditional designs of nuclear power,” the Chief Executive added.
He said he is also anticipating more engagement between the government and the private sectors in key areas such as infrastructure, research and development, and human capital development.
This will be Marcos’ third visit to the US since he assumed the presidency in June 2022.
The President first visited the said country to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in August 2022.
In April this year, Marcos conducted a five-day official visit in Washington D.C. where he met US President Joseph ‘Joe’ Biden and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the alliance between Manila and Washington.
