The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) slapped a Php 100,000 fine against Calvin Abueva of the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots.

The fine stemmed from the mocking gesture made by Abueva against San Miguel Beer head coach Jorge Gallent during Game Two of the PBA Comissioner's Cup Finals at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City last Sunday, February 4.

In the fourth quarter of the game that the Beermen won, 109-85, Abueva made a face and pointed at his left eye.

Prior to the incident, referees called a technical foul on both Abueva and Gallent for verbal altercation.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Gallent said that Abueva called him "blind" which prompted an exchange of words between the coah and the rival player.

Gallent uses an artificial eye after losing his right eye due to a motorcycle accident in 1988.

PBA stress that league rules state that 'any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of 'physical disability' shall be subject to a fine not lower than Php 100,000'.

PBA said that Abueva already apologized to Gallent.

The PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial also mentioned on Tuesday, February 6, that Abueva apologized to San Miguel big man Mo Tautuaa and his wife.

The Hotshots forward also got into a verbal spat with the wife of Tautuaa after Game Two.

The PBA Commissioner's Office summoned the two players, and Marcial assured that both of them already settled the issue.
