Malacañang has opted not to renew or extend Paulino "Paul" Gutierrez's term as Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS).
In a letter sent by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla dated September 12, 2024, it was communicated that Gutierrez's term has ended.
"This refers to the expiration of the tenure of Mr. Paulino Malinay Gutierrez as Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security," Bersamin stated in the letter.
"On behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., this is to inform you that the expiration of his tenure shall take effect immediately," he added.
Prior to his post in PTFoMS, he served as the president of the National Press Club (NPC), an organization for journalists in the Philippines.
Gutierrez became embroiled in controversy when former Bureau of Customs (BOC) Intelligence Officer Jimmy Guban stated that Gutierrez threatened him while he was detained in the Senate in 2018.
It will be recalled that the Senate conducted an investigation at that time due to the illegal drugs seized from two magnetic lifters.
