Filipino Taekwondo athlete Patrick King Perez clinched the Philippines' first-ever medal at the 19th Asian Games.
With an impressive score of 94.1, Perez secured the bronze medal in the Men's Individual Poomsae on Sunday, September 24.
Perez emerged victorious in two of his matches, defeating Laos' representative Souksavanh Chanthilath in the Round of 16 and Nepal's Prem Bahadur Limbu in the quarterfinals.
However, his quest for silver and gold medals was halted as he couldn't surpass the formidable Man Yun Zhong from Taiwan, who achieved an outstanding score of 104.2 points.
The gold medal in the Men's Individual Poomsae event ultimately went to Korean competitor Kang Wan-Jin, who outperformed Yun Zhong in the finals with a score of 107.4 points.
Unfortunately, three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Jocel Lyn Ninobla bid farewell to her Asian Games aspirations early, as she was defeated by South Korean Taekwondo athlete Cha Yea-Eun in the Round of 16, who also went on to win the gold medal in the Women's Individual Poomsae event.
With Perez's bronze victory, the Philippines is now placed 15th at medal ranking for 19th Hangzhoue Asian Games.
