A passenger vessel ran aground in the vicinity waters of Barangay Capaclan, Romblon, on Sunday night, as reported by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday.

In an incident report, the PCG said that the Roll-On-Roll-Off vessel, or the MV SWM Salve Regina, with 55 crew members, 168 passengers, and 21 rolling cargoes, ran aground near Barangay Capaclan, Romblon, at around 11:45 p.m. on Monday night.

The PCG said that the Coast Guard Station Romblon and the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog performed timely and orderly rescue operations for the passengers and crew's safety.

Passengers were safely evacuated and transported to Romblon Public Plaza while the crew stayed at the vessel for monitoring.

“The Coast Guard personnel, along with sub-units, continued to support the passengers, transporting them to Romblon Public Plaza with assistance from LGU Romblon. No signs of flooding or oil spillage have been observed, and the marine sanctuary remains unaffected," they said in a social media post.

An investigation is already underway to determine the cause of the incident.

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops,” said the CGS Romblon.
