Parents fear for the welfare of their children after the local government unit of Taguig City took over the management of some public schools built by Makati City.

Some parents particularly questioned whether the learners will continue to receive the same benefits, including free school uniforms and supplies, that they have when Makati City has jurisdiction over the public schools.

Meanwhile, other parents voiced their support for the Makati City government,

"Kahit magiging Taguig na itong Rizal, ang ipapasuot ko na uniform sa anak ko ay uniform ng Makati. Proud Makatizen ito," Aileen, a mother of a student in Rizal Elementary School, told DZRH.

The takeover stemmed from the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the territorial dispute between Makati City and Taguig City.

The high tribunal ruled that Taguig City has territorial jurisdiction over 10 barangays that previously fall under the administration of Makati.

These so-called EMBO (enlisted men’s barrios) barangays include Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Post Proper Northside and Post Proper Southside

In line with the ruling, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued Memorandum Order 2023-735.
