Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte is facing a complaint for physical injuries and grave threats, filed by a businessman based in Davao City before the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The criminal complaint cites Duterte’s alleged violations of Article 265 (Physical Injuries) and Article 282 (Grave Threats) of the Revised Penal Code.
In the complainant’s sworn statement, he claimed that the incident occurred on February 23 at a bar in Davao City, where Duterte allegedly threatened him with a knife, headbutted him, and inflicted other forms of physical assault.
“Inundayan niya ako ng saksak gamit ang kutsilyo sa aking tagiliran at doon ay pinag mumura niya ako ulit at pinagbabantaan na papatayin kita,” the complainant said.
“At hineadbutt niya ko sa ulo ng maraming beses at ako ay humihingi sa kanya ng patawad kung ano man ang nagawa kong mali sa kanya ngunit patuloy pa rin siya na hineadbutt ang aking ulo at inuundayan niya ulit ako ng kutsilyo,” he added.
The complainant further stated that when Duterte’s bodyguard saw the CCTV in the area, he immediately ordered it to be turned off, at which point the complainant was allegedly cornered.
He went on to say that Duterte, in a fit of anger, allegedly subjected him to nearly two hours of physical assault inside the bar, including punches, slaps, and kicks.
“Mga pasado 5:00 o’clock na ng umaga ng inaabutan na niya ako ng pera (isang libo kada suntok, sampal, or sipa),” he added.
Moreover, the complainant stated that he did not seek medical attention because he was terrified of possible retaliation against him and his family.
Duterte has yet to issue a statement regarding the accusations leveled against him.
