Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban has taken over the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) as officer-in-charge (OIC), according to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Wednesday.
His appointment comes a month after the position was vacated by David Alba, who stepped down in late March due to health reasons.
Panganiban's designation as the new SRA OIC was also confirmed by its board member Pablo Azcona in an interview.
He previously served as Agriculture secretary under former presidents Joseph Estrada in 2001 and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2005.
In designating Panganiban as OIC, Azcona said the senior undersecretary is the chairman of the SRA Board, representing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who concurrently sits as secretary of Agriculture.
Azcona said Panganiban will be handling daily routine activities at the SRA until the time a new OIC will be appointed.
