The state of calamity in the Philippines due to the COVID-19 pandemic is possibly extended for the next three months, the Palace announced Monday.
In a press briefing, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said the state of calamity in the country is extended "for the purpose of preserving the benefits under it."
Among those are the release of indemnification packages, emergency procurement, and the special risk allowance for health care worker.
"We’re happy to announce that we are 6% away from the wall of immunity. That’s why malakas na ang loob natin for face masks," Cruz-Angeles said.
"We will transition out of the state of calamity after further review," she added.
The announcement comes a week after the Department of Health (DOH) said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recommended that the COVID-19 state of calamity stays until the end of 2022.
In September 2021, then President Rodrigo Duterte extended the COVID-19 state of calamity in the country until September 12, 2022.
