Malacañang will “wait and see” if legal action should be taken against Senator Imee Marcos over her drug-use allegations against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his family, it said on Tuesday.
“Let’s just wait and see. As of now, we do not have any plan of making any legal action against her. So, let’s just wait,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro told reporters during a press conference.
To a remark about Senator Marcos’ statement being a form of destabilization, Castro said it was up to the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the Office of the Ombudsman to make a case addressing the matter.
In response to an assertion that whether true or not, such an allegation would have an impact, Castro said that only those who do not assess the matter carefully will doubt the President, who has faced the very same accusations in the past.
As for the international community, Castro has faith that it will evaluate the situation with the right facts.
Regarding Senator Imee, Castro argued that she has chosen to protect her corrupt allies at the expense of her brother, who is working towards eliminating corruption in the country.
“So, alam naman natin, muli uulitin ko, mas pinuprotektahan niya ang mga taong may issue about corruption, mas pinuprotektahan niya ang mga taong umamin na murderer kaysa sa kapatid niya na nagsasagawa lamang ng pagpapaimbestiga para mawala, masugpo ang korapsiyon sa bansa,” the press officer said.
Castro said the President will not be taking a hair follicle test, insisting he is drug-free and will not entertain challenges from “destabilizers” and “obstructionists.”
On Monday, Senator Imee Marcos accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos of being drug addicts during her speech at the Iglesia ni Cristo transparency rally.
Her nephew, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, called her conduct unbecoming of a true sibling. She then took to social media to say she would take a DNA test, while President Marcos and his family should take hair follicle drug tests.
