Malacañang announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels across Luzon on Thursday, October 24, due to the impact of severe tropical storm Kristine.

The suspension was based on the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) recommendation, following the forecast of continuous heavy rainfall caused by "Kristine."

The decision to suspend work and classes also seeks to ensure smoother rescue and relief operations by government agencies in the affected areas.

"Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services are hereby directed to continue their operations and render the necessary services," the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a press release on late Wednesday.

In other areas, the suspension or cancellation of classes and government office work may be determined by their Local Chief Executives, pursuant to relevant laws, rules, and guidelines.

Meanwhile, private companies and offices have the discretion to decide whether to suspend work, based on their respective management's judgment.
