President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has announced September 11, 2023, as a special non-working day in the province of Ilocos Norte to remember the 106th birth anniversary of his late father and former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
According to the proclamation signed on behalf of Marcos by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on August 23, Ilocos Norte inhabitants will "be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration."
The President resurrected some of Marcos Sr.’s projects, such as the Masagana rice production program and the Kadiwa store system, during his first year in office.
Marcos Sr. was in power from 1965 to 1986 and imposed martial law from 1972 until 1981.
With his dictatorship, that era was marred by corruption and human rights abuses, which led to the Marcos family being portrayed as the villains in Philippine politics for several decades.
