The state weather bureau is monitoring one low-pressure area (LPA) and one severe tropical storm (STS) which are both outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In a public briefing on Monday, Oct. 9, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said STS Bolaven was last seen 2,830 kilometers (km) east of Eastern Visayas.
"Hindi natin inaasahan na itong si Severe Tropical Storm Bolaven, international name niya, ay papasok ng Philippine Area of Responsibility," he noted.
Meanwhile, Obrina said the Typhoon Koinu, formerly called by its local name Jenny, was spotted 880 km west of Extreme Northern Luzon.
The PAGASA weather specialist stated that Typhoon Koinu is not directly affecting any parts of the country.
On the other hand, Obrina said the LPA was located 1,415 east of Eastern Visayas, and it has possibility to enter PAR within 24 to 48 hours.
"Kaya patuloy natin itong imo-monitor," he added.
However, the PAGASA weather specialist said the LPA's trough or extension is affecting Central and Eastern Visayas and the majority of parts of Mindanao.
Areas in the aforementioned region may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the LPA's trough or localized thunderstorms.
