The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) declared the official start of the summer season in the Philippines on Friday, March 22.

"Today we officially declare the start of the Philippine summer based on analysis of latest forecast," PAGASA chief Dr. Nathaniel Servando said in a press conference on Friday.

In a press release, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, or amihan had ended as the "retreat of the high-pressure area over Siberia indicates an apparent weakening of Amihan."

The state weather bureau said the number of dry and warm days across the country will continue to increase in the coming months.

However, isolated thunderstorms are likely to occur, usually in the afternoon and evening.

"The public and all concerned government agencies are advised to continue their ongoing precautionary measures to minimize heat stress, optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption, and prevent any accompanying health risks associated with this climate condition," PAGASA said.
