The number of individuals who died due to landslides and floods caused by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has soared to 98, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.
Of the said number, NDRRMC Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said 58 were confirmed and 40 were still being verified.
At least 53 of the fatalities were reported in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, 19 in Western Visayas, 12 in Calabarzon, six in Eastern Visayas, four in Zamboanga, three in Soccsksargen, and one in Bicol, the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, 69 people were injured and 63 others were reported missing.
STS Paeng, which affected 1,812,740 people or 575,728 families in 31,942 villages in 17 regions including Metro Manila, is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, October 31.
The NDRRMC also said 213,726 individuals or 80,676 families were staying inside 27,109 evacuation centers, while 698,451 people or 247,796 families were taking temporary shelter elsewhere.
Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P757,841,175 in MIMAROPA, Regions 5,6,7,10, and 11.
