Authorities seized P7.5 million worth of high-grade marijuana concealed inside cans of fruit cocktail, being sold online, during a buy-bust operation at an apartment in Mandaluyong on Monday night.
This was the result of a joint operation between the Mandaluyong and Marikina PNP, where a couple were arrested for allegedly operating an online transaction scheme over the past two years.
In an interview with DZRH News, Mandaluyong Police Chief PCol. Mary Grace Madayag revealed that the bulk of the illegal drugs were imported from a foreign country and were then sold by the couple, who are believed to be part of a larger syndicate.
"Initial information po is through Telegram ang kanilang transaction. Hindi naman po sa ibang social media account," Madayag said.
"Tapos personal pong p-pickupin dito sa apartment sa Mandaluyong. Sila mismo ang nakikipag-transact, ‘yung dalawang magkasintahan. Tapos im-meet up po nila dito po sa Mandaluyong," she added.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the marijuana and to identify the logistics company facilitating the shipments to the Philippines.
