With the continuous price increase on petroleum products, an opposition leader suggested a P7 billion fund raiser for the direct fuel subsidy to assist the transport groups and agricultural sectors.
As reported by Milky Rigonan on DZRH's Damdaming Bayan, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan explained that the purpose of the fund increase is to help such sectors keep up with the successive oil price hikes.
According to Libanan, of this amount, P5 billion will be allocated to the fuel subsidy for public transport drivers, while P2 billion will be given to those in the agricultural sector.
Under the proposed 2024 National Expenditure Program, it is said that the government plans to allocate P3.5 billion for fuel subsidies, of which P2.5 billion will be provided for PUV drivers through the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and P1 billion for the agricultural sector through the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Under the said fuel subsidies, modern jeepney and UV express drivers are expected to receive P10,000, while the other drivers will get P6,500.
On the other hand, tricycle drivers will also receive P1,000, and delivery riders will get P1,200 in fuel cash assistance.
Meanwhile, the DOTr targets issuing the fuel subsidies before the end of August.
