City Mayor Mohammad Ali Matabalao has offered PHP500,000 in exchange for the capture of the gunman who killed one of his employees on March 9 in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte province.
In addition, Matabalao offered a reward of PHP 300,000 to anyone who could provide information that would assist authorities in identifying the gunman or hired killer who killed Faizal Malagiok in the municipality's Barangay Semba.
Malagiok, 40, a mayor's office staff member, was gunned down around 7 p.m. in Barangay Semba in Datu Odin Sinsuat, which is adjacent to SPDA Subdivision.
According to Matabalao, he received six gunshot wounds to the head.
“If the gunman is listening or viewing this (Facebook live), I offer you PHP500,000 for your voluntary surrender, if your family will bring you in, I will give them the money,” Matabalao said in his Facebook post on Monday.
“I am also offering PHP300,000 for anybody who can provide information about the identity who ended Popeye’s (Malagiok’s nickname) precious life,” he added.
Matabalao also requested a prompt investigation from the authorities in Datu Odin Sinsuat, stating that the Cotabato City police are willing to assist in identifying the perpetrators.
He also sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation in the investigation of Malagiok's murder.
Lieutenant Regie Albellera, Datu Odin Sinsuat town police chief, stated that a preliminary investigation revealed that Malagiok had received threats but did not elaborate.
