Customs agents uncovered a cache of allegedly smuggled smart television (TV) sets and computer equipment worth PHP 20 million inside a warehouse in Bulacan province.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported that on March 21, a composite team led by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS)—Port of Manila—served the Letter of Authority (LOA) signed by Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio to representatives of ECOM Electronics Reconditioning Services located at RIS Industrial Complex in Guiguinto town.
Moreover, the LOA was issued in response to the negative information concerning the subject warehouse, which, upon inspection, uncovered various televisions of all sizes, lamination equipment, packaging boxes, and raw supplies for reconditioning and repair.
Following the inventory, the Customs implementation team temporarily locked the warehouse with BOC seals and placed 24/7 duty details at the warehouse's entrance and exit gates.
Owners must produce importation documentation or proof of payment for commodities in the warehouse.
If the warehouse's contents were proven to have violated Section 1400 (Misdeclaration in Goods Declaration) in relation to Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) of Republic Act No. 10863, known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), they may be subject to seizure and forfeiture proceedings.
