Authorities from the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized an estimated 1.5 tons of suspected shabu worth around P10 billion from a watercraft intercepted off the waters of Zambales early Friday, June 20.
According to a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, the interception occurred at around 1:30 a.m.
In a statement, Philippine Navy Spokesperson Capt. John Percie Alcos confirmed that the vessel was carrying several foreign nationals, who were immediately apprehended during the joint operation.
The contraband is currently being transported to the Naval Operating Base in Subic for further verification and documentation.
Capt. Alcos noted that this is one of the largest drug hauls recorded by the Philippine Navy since it began actively supporting the national government's intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
Authorities are still investigating the identities and nationalities of the arrested suspects, as well as the origin of the drug shipment.
They are also looking into the possibility of local contacts or accomplices in the Philippines.
This is a developing story.
