A male Chinese national, supposedly departing for Taiwan with a Philippine passport, has been arrested by Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at Boracay Island gateway Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan.

According to a news release on Sunday, the Chinese national, identified as Zhou Jintao, 24, presented himself using a passport under the name Janssen Gonzales Tan to the BI officers.

He also presented a person with a disability, postal, and tax identification number cards, all from the Philippines, a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, and a birth certificate, stating that he was born in Davao Del Sur to a Filipino mother and a Chinese father.

However, the officers noticed that Zhou was not able to speak Filipino or any other local dialect, which made him confess that he was a Chinese citizen.

Meanwhile, Zhou entered the Philippines on June 30, 2019, based on the record in the BI database shown.

He was nabbed and turned over to the BI's warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig, for pending deportation proceedings.
