Bantay Dagat personnel from Sipalay City in Negros Occidental province on Wednesday morning released 45 sea turtle hatchlings at Poblacion Beach.
Edsel Toledo, the coordinator of Bantay Dagat, said they discovered the nest at the end of November 2022 and secured it until the eggs hatched, which usually takes 60 days.
He stated that the hatchlings came from one of the three nests that the Bantay Dagat attentively watched.
The species of the hatchlings are still being determined, according to Toledo.
After two batches of hatchlings were sent back to their natural environment in January, sea turtle hatchlings were released in Sipalay City for the third time this year.
The city government reported on Jan. 10 that 82 baby turtles were released following monitoring of its nest at the local conservation area in Barangay 5.
On the same day, 22 hatchlings were released back into the sea in Barangay Nauhang after being turned over to the Bantay Dagat.
Mayor Maria Gina Lizares previously stated that these are the results of local marine conservation efforts.
It encouraged locals to participate in its conservation efforts, not only in marine life but also in the forest areas and other natural resources.
Bantay Dagat personnel also released 13 newly hatched green sea turtles in Barangay 5 in February last year.
