Over 17,000 residents now evacuated from Mayon Volcano danger zone

More than 17,000 living inside the six-kilometer and seven-kilometer radius of the permanent danger zone (PDZ) of the Mayon Volcano in Albay have been evacuated as of Thursday, June 15, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

In its 8 AM monitoring bulletin, NDRRMC said that a total of 4,813 families or 17,216 individuals are presently situated inside 26 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, 200 families or 725 individuals are staying with their family relatives, and friends.

The NDRRMC also reported that 224 animals were pre-emptively evacuated.

At least 61,546 assistance — foods and non-foods worth ₱37,372,915.72 were distributed to affected residents.

In an update, the Albay Provincial Information Office (PIO) said that the provincial government will be installing a common kitchen, a common bathing area, and water supply systems in the evacuation centers.

This initiative, it said, will ease the lives of Albayanos while they are temporarily staying in the centers.

The state seismologists reported that it recorded 2 volcanic earthquakes and 306 rockfall events in Mayon Volcano.

The country's most active volcano also effused "very slow" lava flow activity which reached the Miisi and Bonga gullies within 1 kilometers.

Phivolcs earlier said that there is a possibility that the danger zone may be extended to 8 kilometers once Alert Level 4 has been hoisted.
