The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said on Monday, January 8, that over 2.6 million kilograms of garbage were collected during the launch of the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administration’s Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) program.
According to the PCO, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) launched the program on Saturday with a national simultaneous clean-up drive that involved 9,000 barangays.
It added that the national status report released by the DILG on Sunday showed that the KALINISAN program had collected 2,646,948 kilograms of garbage from the 9,189 participating barangays.
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos led the program’s kick-off ceremony, which was held at the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila, coinciding with the observance of Community Development Day.
Abalos said that his office will acknowledge the local government units for the efficient implementation of the KALINISAN program quarterly.
