More than 1,000 erring motorists have been apprehended during the first three days test run of the Single Ticketing System (STS) in five Metro cities, Metro Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said on Monday.
"Dito sa San Juan, over 100 violators po at doon naman sa nag-roll out sa ibang lungsod, more or less 1,000 in the first three days. Ayan ay base sa aming pagpupulong noong Biyernes," he said in a radio interview.
Zamora noted that the total number of erring motorists apprehended decreased this time.
"Dahil siguro handa ang ating mamayan na magkakaroon ng bagong patakaran sa paghuhuli.. I believe that the public is aware that there are new system in place for traffic regulations and ayun ang malaking bagay rito," he added.
He also said that the rollout of the STS last week has been orderly and that they are targeting to fully implement the system in all cities in Metro Manila in the following weeks.
According to MMC President, they are just waiting for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to distribute the hand-held device that will be used by traffic enforcement personnel.
The implementation of a Single Ticketing System (STS) in the cities of San Juan, Muntinlupa, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Paranaque, Manila, and Caloocan began last May 2.
The STS aims to standardize fines and penalties for common violations like disregarding traffic signs and the coding system, as well as illegal parking.
The system also aims to “harmonize” national and local laws on traffic enforcement.
Traffic enforcers in Metro Manila can apprehend motorists caught violating traffic laws, with fines ranging from P500 up to P10,000 depending on the frequency of the offense.
