A total of 104 high school students from Cabuyao City in Laguna were rushed to the nearby hospitals on Thursday after they passed out due to dehydration following the conduct of a surprise fire and earthquake drill.
An initial report from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said that about 2,00-3,000 students of the Gulod National High School-Mamatid Extension participated in the said drills at around 2 PM on Thursday, March 23.
While others convened at the open evacuation area of the school grounds, others stayed in their respective classrooms.
During the drill, several students from different grades fainted and lost consciousness, said the report. They were immediately sent to the CCH New Hospital and Ospital ng Cabuyao for emergency medical attention.
Cabuyao Mayor Dennis Hain suspended classes on Friday, March 24, as a result, to enable the students to recover and conduct a probe.
The school has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
